Holders of the token behind a decentralized cloud computing network began casting votes on Oct. 26, 2026, on a proposed switch from its own chain to Solana.

The voting window runs up to 10:02 a.m. ET on Nov. 2, 2026, leaving the outcome undecided for now.

Tally And Quorum

Counts from Oct. 27 showed roughly 98% in favor. Quorum was already met, and counts remain subject to change.

The network under discussion is Akash, a marketplace for renting computing power. Today it operates on akashnet-2, a self-standing chain built on Cosmos tooling.

How AKT Would Move

A one-way portal would handle AKT transfers at 1:1. Tokens that are sent exit the old chain, meaning the total stays put.

The token retains both its ticker and six decimals.

Nothing sent through the portal can be reversed. A yes outcome would let AKT launch on Solana.

SPL would be the standard used, the standard used across Solana tokens. The Solana version stays offline until the vote passes and two audits are done. The team will give the date after those steps.

Wallets And Exchanges

Self-custody holders connect a Cosmos wallet and supply a Solana address. Nobody needs SOL to move. AKT held on any other Cosmos-linked chain must be sent back to akashnet-2 before the move.

AKT from other chains is not accepted by the portal. Exchanges handle customer balances on a timetable they set.

Moves from console wallets happen automatically.

Support And Precedent

Governance can still block the marketplace cutover until shortly before it. Once the portal opens, token moves cannot be reversed for everyone.

After launch, wallets and exchanges may add Solana AKT when they are ready.

It could come earlier than the marketplace move. Solana is where other infrastructure networks went after leaving their own chains before.

The team called that a tested path for this switch.

The team put out a public request for a host chain starting Dec. 15, 2025. Solana met every hard requirement, as did an Ethereum layer-2.

The team settled on Solana and gave its explanation in a blog post dated Oct. 26, 2026. It named lower costs under load, no single operator and peer infrastructure networks. The network would not operate a chain of its own on Solana under the plan.

Validators on Solana would confirm the network’s transactions. The Solana Foundation offered to help with engineering and audits during the process.

The team noted that it does not depend on that help.

Cutover Plans

This proposal does not relocate the marketplace at the present time.

Live leases and governance remain on akashnet-2 for now. The marketplace shift is not live until audits and rehearsals finish and a separate cutover vote succeeds.

A separate later vote would fix when cutover occurs. After cutover, new workloads would be created on Solana in place of the old chain. The older chain would taper off and then halt.

Providers would have to update software and re-register on Solana after cutover. Tenants keep their deployment files in the process.

Validators stop serving as validators at the halt.

The Bigger Question

The vote asks holders whether a working network should give up its own chain. What they decide affects where the compute market is based going forward.
